A beginnerÕs Guide For Christians

Newcomb
What Are Good Works?
Do what Jesus did. Be
attentive, kind, helpful, caring, sharing, honest and polite. (Like, playground
rules: Say Ôplease and thank you,Õ take turns.) Give someone your turn, if it will help.
(If another driver wants to change lanes, create a space for him!) Probably,
you will find that you are already doing Good – Works
God will show you when and
where.
We will add practical, Good Works Suggestions below.
Why Do? Good Works/Deeds
Because it is a Win-Win- -Win-Win Opportunity! Beginning
and ending with the doer, US!
It will make you and the person
helped, Happy.
It pleases Jesus,
It is Obedience to God
It proves your Faith, to you!
Pick up something for somebody.

Door- ways and Good Deeds
If you have pulled the door open, to go in, hold it for the next person
standing there. Let him pass in
front of you.
If you have pushed the door open to exit, hold it until the person
following can hold it. Then, move on out of his way. DonÕt let it slam him.
This favor is due older persons or those who may be handicapped or inconvenienced by children or objects carried.
EXAMPLE:
I am old and walk with a cane. I walk up to a fast food place. A woman holds the door for me. I thank her and pass by. Inside is a line of people waiting to
order. I take a place in line. The woman enters and I give her my place
in line. She accepts it. We have
helped each other. We are still strangers. Acts of courtesy are just that. Do not presume more.
Good Works are for
everyone. Christian or not.
Your personal Attention is a Good Work
This is not a stare nor is It to shun; a cripple, the ill clothed, unkempt,
ugly, or morbidly obese. Everyone wants to be somebody. Make friendly, eye contact, give a nod
of recognition, and a smile, especially if they do. DonÕt give more attention to the wheels,
tanks and tubing, than to them. If
he is farther away, and notices you, lift your hand with a silent hi. Whether
he is inside, or on the street.
If a wheel chair is stuck, ask how to help, before you push. DonÕt try to lift a person by yourself, get help.
Hurt and needy people may not have
normal speech or an expected behavior. DonÕt push your Good Work where it is refused. DonÕt be depressed by rejection. Try to be, understanding, that too is a Good Work.
Caution
Do not use your car to
substitute for 911. You
canÕt drive and give proper attention to a handicapped person. There may also be insurance issues!
I see Good Works when
people pickup things that other people
drop. It might be a toy, a shoe or
sock, or Paper trash or paper money. I have had really poor persons pick up and hand me money!
Good Works includes treating strangers and
public servants like people.
My British friend says, ÓWe say, Óexcuse meÓ before asking, what time is it? Where are we? How much is it?
Your first Good Work of the day might be to say, Good Morning, before,Ó I want Breakfast.Ó
Remember the Classic Good
Deed. A Boy Scout helps a little old Lady to cross the street. It is still being done. You too can be a good scout!
PASSIVE GOOD WORKS
Good works, by words left un-spoken.
When some thoughtful person sends you a ÔforwardÕ. Say, thanks. Even, if
you have received several copies already, and didnÕt enjoy the subject. The thanks were for Ôthinking of
you.Õ Some person, not only
remembered you, they wrote to you and sent it.
With your ÔthanksÕ do not add,Ó I knew that already!Ó and de-value
the favor.
No matter how many times you receive a
ÔreminderÕ, Accept is as if it had been the first! Another time, it maybe the ONLY one! You
get!
GOOD WORKS is being Gracious
Learn how to properly accept a gift.
Do not show disappointment.
Do not offer money or a ÔlikeÕ gift.
This spoils the GiverÕs intent. This reaction
applies to all gifts, from a childÕs wilted flower, to GodÕs GIFT of HIS
SON.
When We are Gracious, we may be
GodÕs GOOD Gift, to someone else!

YOUR HANDS MAY BE GODÕS HANDS
These are suggestions that one may do alone.
With other Good Workers, you can start a school; build a Church, support a
mission; help, to provide for the distressed, worldwide. (There is Poverty in
your Town.)
